My cooperation with the PTE Virology Research Group goes back a long time, initially as a bat researcher I helped the group's work during virus samplings. In 2020, I joined the newly founded National Laboratory of Virology to expand the virological research I started during my master and doctoral studies. In the group, I primarily study the diversity and disease ecology of viruses found in bats. In my work, I am particularly motivated by the high human health importance of the viruses found in bats and the fact that I have the opportunity to examine the host and its viruses in a complex system. It is fortunate that I understand the taxonomy and ecology of bats on a professional level, as this is often essential to have correct conclusions in virological research. Conservation research on bats is also extremely important to me, which, among other things, promotes a better understanding of bat-human interactions and the prevention of future zoonotic epidemics.
