Advancing Global Health Security: The National Laboratory of Virology's High-Security Research Facility
The National Laboratory of Virology at the University of Pécs boasts the most advanced virological research facility in Hungary and stands out in the Central and Eastern European region as the sole high-security biolab dedicated to research purposes.
Spanning approximately 100 square meters, the laboratory includes the actual BSL-4 research space, along with associated changing rooms, airlock systems, and decontamination showers. It adheres to the stringent international standards set by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in the United States (BMBL 6th Edition), fulfilling all criteria necessary for a BSL-4 certification. This enables the lab to safely study pathogens with the highest level of risk.
